The Crusades
- There were four major crusades
- There was an ill fated crusade known as the Peter Crusade
- After that came the Norman crusade
- This crusade took over many places surrounding Jerusalem including the holy city itself.
- They carved kingdoms out of their conquered territories
- Held the majority of the kingdoms for less than a century. The rest fell a century later.
- launched many more crusades
- One of the last crusades conquered Constantinople and ruled it until 1261.
- Showed how the church can influence military and politicts. Impacted the Muslim world through their invasions and the christian world through their ability to unite through religion.
Reconquista's
- The Norman brothers Robert and Roger Guiscard took the Reconquest of Sicily.
- Robert took southern Italy as his own and Sicily was taken by his brother.
- After twenty years of fighting they took the island.
- Reconquest of Spain
- Known as the Reconquesta.
- Took over four hundred years.
- started in late tenth century ending in late fourteenth century.
- This had a major impact on the post classical world showing how through the church Europe united to conquer back their lands.
